ROG Xbox Ally
The handheld Xbox: full Windows + Game Pass in an ASUS-built 7″ body (Ryzen Z2 A, 16GB/512GB) at an ERP under the Series X.
Best for
- Game Pass libraries
- Xbox + PC play anywhere
- Handheld-first buyers
Watch out
Windows on a small screen is more friction than Switch/SteamOS; battery under AAA load is the trade for the open library. Xbox lists these as estimated retailer prices, not Microsoft prices. The Ally X (Z2 Extreme, 24GB/1TB) sits at $999.99 ERP; the X20 (7.4″ OLED, Z2 Extreme, 24GB/1TB) opened pre-orders 25 August at $1,299.99 / £1,299 and releases 15 October 2026.
Steam Deck OLED
The PC-gaming handheld: your Steam library on the couch, with the 2026 price rise (~$549 to $789 for 512GB; 1TB $949) narrowing the gap to an Xbox Series S plus a TV.
Best for
- Steam library owners
- PC-game portability
- Tinkering (it is a PC)
Watch out
Valve raised prices sharply in 2026 — the old $549 mental price is gone. AAA titles need settings cuts versus a console plugged into a wall; game compatibility is Proton-dependent.
